I've tried making crackers a few times in the past years ago and then again just the other day. They are always super blah and bland, and I just don't know anyone that would want to eat them.
Store bought ones are expensive and too high carb to actually enjoy very many of them, at least for where I'm at right now nutritionally. Plus I really need to be focusing on nutrient density and getting certain foods in daily. Two of those foods I'm supposed to be focusing on are flax and hemp seeds, so this recipe takes care of it nicely! And, they are yummy and have that salt fix that I need!
Flax seeds are a super food!!! They are loaded with nutrients, omega 3's and fiber, may help lower cholesterol and blood pressure, and may prevent cancer to name a few of it's benefits. Check out this Healthline article on flax!
Be sure to buy them in seed form and use a coffee grinder to grind them right before you use them. Our bodies can't properly break down the whole seed, so you don't get the benefits they have to offer if eating them whole. It's also ideal to grind right before you consume them to maintain nutrient content.
Hemp hearts (aka seeds) are another one that packs a nutritional punch and are full of fiber and protein as well. Here's a Healthline article on the benefits of hemp hearts.
I've been at my daughter's in Colorado for about 3 weeks now while I'm doing some treatment with an integrative oncologist out here. While I hauled my Vitamix and food processor with me, there are so many kitchen utensils I don't have with me...so, when travelling, you improvise. I whipped out the handy dandy Hydroflask to make these crackers! I'm telling you, where there is a will, there is a way!
I also ran out of parchment paper, so I went with saran wrap on top of the dough and it worked perfect...along with the Hydroflask!
One of the next things on my To Do List is to try out some variations of these crackers, I'll be sure to let you know
when I do! There are all sorts of ideas spinning around in my head that I want to try!
Pate is also going to be in my near future, I really want to try the pate with these crackers!!!
My daughter, Neely, her roommate, and co-workers have been sampling recipes for me while I'm here and providing feedback. So, I was sure to send in some of these crackers for all of them to try. Feedback was good, this is the text I received from my daughter:
What I want to know is, does "slap" equate to 5 stars? I'm going to assume that it does, lol.
If you're in the mood for a snack that slaps (no idea if I'm using that correctly), go make yourself some of these crackers!
Then come back here, and click on how many stars worth of slap you think they are worth and leave a comment below!
Click below to subscribe, I'll send an email once a week recapping the
prior weeks posts, so you don't miss out on any future recipes!!
I will never share or sell your info!
